Rockwood Expands Wood
Preservative Production
● Charlotte, NC-based Rockwood
Specialties, Inc., a division of Chemical
Specialties Inc. (CSI), is investing $10
million in a new production facility in
Harrisburg, NC. This action comes in
response to the increase in demand for
its new generation alkaline copper
quaternary (ACQ) wood preservative.
The increased demand for ACQ is a
result of CSI customers converting
operations to ACQ-based production
following an industry-wide voluntary
transition to non-arsenic-based wood
preservatives, according to Steve
Ainscough, president and CEO,
Chemical Specialties Inc.
ACQ wood preservatives are used
to manufacture Preserve and
Preserve Plus brand wood products.
The non-arsenic formulation provides
equivalent performance against biological
hazards, such as decay and
termite attack, to CCA pressuretreated
wood preservatives that previously
contained arsenic and
chromium.
